Step 1-Let’s find some PINSPIRATION!

Because I started this process with so many clothes, I honestly didn’t know what my personal style was. (And to be honest-I’m still figuring it out!) But, doing a quick search on Pinterest helped me visualize my end goal: a small and curated wardrobe full of versatile pieces that made me feel good and comfy. It’s hard to imagine what kind of pieces I would use from my own closet without seeing what others before me did. One of the major goals in this step is to figure out what you want your closet to look like in the end. I don’t mean you’ll be purchasing all new, but instead that you’ll figure out you and your own style, and how you can use what you already have to make new outfits! Looking at your pins will give you an idea of the color palette you trend toward, the kinds of patterns you like, which classics you already own that you know you’ll have in your capsule, and what styles work with your silhouette.

When searching, I used keywords like summer, capsule, wardrobe, and classic so lots of results came up on Pinterest. If you don’t know where to start, you can see my Simplified Capsule Planning board on Pinterest for a place to begin.

  • Login or signup on pinterest.com

  • Search by keywords like summer, capsule, and wardrobe

  • pin, pin, pin

Now I say, “Pin, pin, pin” but it’s also important to be intentional here. There’s not a contest for most pins! Your goal is to find colors, silhouettes, patterns, and styles your eye trends toward. Hopefully, this will make the other steps easier. And hopefully, you’ll start to recognize clothes you already own in some of your pins! That’s a hint that you’re finding your style!

I recommend doing this over a series of days, as your mood and time availability may change what you would pin day-by-day. It’ll be a better sampling of what you really do like.

That’s this week’s homework: get to pinning! I'll be back next week to share step #2.

Xoxo,

Kimberly
